Published rules, city by city
Each sentence is the city’s published rule as it appears on its TrashDayNow guide; the source link is the city’s own page. Where an address lookup showed what happened in the last holiday week, that is in the last column.
Collection slides a day after a holiday
The most common rule: when an observed holiday lands on a weekday, that day's route and usually the rest of the week's run one day later, then the normal schedule resumes.

Collection runs as normal on other holidays, including Columbus Day. | Township of Hamilton (Mercer County) collection calendar (Recycle Coach) | — |
| North Brunswick, NJ | Townhomes and condominiums with trash twice a week (Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday): if a Township holiday falls on one of your collection days, that day's collection is cancelled, with no make-up; collection resumes on your next scheduled day. Automated single-family zones get the dated changes on the Township's 2026 schedule instead: Zone 1's Election Day collection (Tuesday, November 3) is on Wednesday, November 4, Zone 2's Thanksgiving collection on Wednesday, November 25 and Zone 3's day-after-Thanksgiving collection on Monday, November 30. | North Brunswick Township 2026 Automated Trash Collection Schedule | — |

| Huntington, NY | Collection is cancelled, not rescheduled, on Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Labor Day and Election Day, and you may put out double the usual amount of trash (up to 12 cans or bags) on your next pickup day. | Columbus, OH | There is no trash pickup on the 11 holidays the city observes. If your home has a trash color (Gold, Gray, Navy, Pink or Ruby), your pickup day moves one day later after each of those holidays and keeps the new day; a Friday color moves to the next Monday, and there is no Saturday pickup. We have not found a city holiday rule for homes on a fixed weekday route, so in a holiday week check the city's PickUp CBUS calendar for your address. Recycling and yard waste keep their own day: in a holiday week, a pickup on or after the holiday runs one day later (Friday moves to Saturday); the city's PickUp CBUS calendar lists Indigenous Peoples' Day and Veterans Day as not moving them. | City of Columbus, Find My Collection Day | — |
| Haverford Township, PA | When a township holiday falls on a collection day, there is no trash or recycling pickup that day. Monday holidays affect only brush and Christmas-tree pickup. | Haverford Township 2026 trash and recycling calendars | — |
| Goose Creek, SC | There is no garbage service on City-observed holidays. Yard debris is not picked up on the Thanksgiving and Christmas make-up days. | City of Goose Creek 2026 sanitation holiday card | — |

The City's holiday chart gives each moved pickup by date, and garbage can move a day earlier or to the following Monday. | City of Appleton Holiday Collection chart | — |
What address lookups showed on Labor Day 2026 (Monday, September 7)
These are the cities where the dated schedule served to a real address in the holiday week showed what the city did. A city that is not here was not observed that week; it says nothing about what it did.
| City | Observed |
|---|---|
| Mountain View, CA | Tuesday routes ran on their day. |
| Oakley, CA | Friday routes ran on their day. |
| Roseville, CA | Wednesday routes ran on their day. |
| Jacksonville, FL | Collected on Labor Day itself; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday routes ran on their days. |
| Atlanta, GA | Wednesday routes ran on Thursday, September 10. |
| Olathe, KS | Friday routes ran on their day. |
| Cambridge, MA | Routes slid one day: Wednesday ran Thursday, Thursday ran Friday. |
| Memphis, TN | Collected on Labor Day itself. |
| Fort Worth, TX | Tuesday routes ran on their day. |
| Tyler, TX | The twice-a-week schedule was reshuffled for the week rather than slid. |
How to read the table
A published rule and an observation are different things.
The published rule is what the city or its hauler says happens in a holiday week. It is transcribed as one sentence per city and linked to the page it came from. Cities revise these pages, so the notice your city posts the week of a holiday is the final word.
The observation is what the dated collection schedule served to a real address in that city showed during the last holiday week — for example a Wednesday route listed for Thursday. It is a record of that week, not a rule for the next one.
A city that is not in the table has either published no holiday rule we could quote, or has not been observed in a holiday week yet. It is not evidence that nothing changes there.
Your own address
The table says what a city does; the lookup says what your route does.
Most cities run several collection days across their routes, so a holiday that lands on Monday affects Monday routes first and the rest of the week only where the city slides. Check your address for the day that applies to your property, then read your city's row here for what a holiday does to it.
Your route
