Hamden runs on most holidays, and names the short list that changes. The Town's published rule: There is no refuse or recycling collection on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Collection for that day and the days of the week following are delayed by one day; a holiday on a Saturday or Sunday leaves the schedule unchanged.

The route map dates from 2019, with the Town's April 2023 street changes, and it also answers commercial and institutional streets, so the day is for residential curbside service. The lookup answers only inside the Town's own border, and near the line it checks the State's parcel map, so a home just over the line in North Haven, Cheshire or another neighbouring town gets no Hamden day, whatever its mailing address.
