Elkhart follows the most common pattern: collection slides a day after a holiday. The city's published rule: Borden Waste-Away, the City's contracted hauler, delays service one day on and after New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, for the rest of that week; Independence Day 2026, on a Saturday, caused no delay.

The dates below are the federal holidays left this year, with what the rule means for each if Elkhart observes it. The city's own calendar governs which holidays it observes.

Elkhart publishes its collection routes as a map (City of Elkhart Public Works & Utilities): each route area carries a fixed weekday for trash; the lookup reads that area for your address.
