Set-out rules
Trash and recycling are picked up in the location designated for your address — at the curb, or in the alley for addresses that have alley service.
Under city ordinance, containers may be placed out after 7 p.m. the night before collection, must be in place by 7 a.m. on collection day, and must be moved back to the side or rear of the residence by 7 p.m. that same evening.
Nothing has to be sorted for the big blue recycling bin, but every recyclable must be rinsed or free of food particles, and plastic bags never go in it — a bag of recyclables is thrown out along with everything inside it.
The city accepts plastic bottles, jugs, jars and tubs based on the shape of the container rather than the number inside the recycling symbol, so plastic cups, lids, straws, berry containers and Styrofoam go in the trash instead.
