How collection works
How trash collection works in Scranton.
The City of Scranton's Bureau of Refuse and Recycling, part of the Department of Public Works, oversees trash collection and recycling in the city.
Garbage is often picked up in the court or alley, but recycling is always picked up curbside at the front or side of the home. The City publishes a 2026 12-month recycling calendar.
For leaf, grass, brush or bulk pickups, contact Department of Public Works headquarters at 570-348-4180 (ext. 15), Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Recycling questions can also go to recycle@scrantonpa.gov.
When a week has a holiday, weather delay or disruption of service, recycling pickups move to the following day of the week.
