How collection works

How trash collection works in Lake Charles.

The City of Lake Charles collects residential garbage, which goes in plastic bags inside the City-provided container.

The City is building an interactive map for looking up the collection day by address. Until it is ready, residents can confirm their pickup day by calling the Public Works Help Line at 337-491-1220.

The same line schedules white-goods (appliance) pickups, which must be called in ahead of time, and takes requests for a new or repaired trash can.

There is no solid waste collection on the holidays the City observes, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Mardi Gras, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day; the City releases alternate schedules ahead of each holiday and gives public notice at least one week before any holiday-related change.
