How days are assigned
The City of Fredericton collects garbage from residential properties: single and double housing units, individual townhouses, condominiums and apartment buildings with four or fewer units. Apartment buildings with five or more units and businesses arrange their own garbage collection, but the map's zones cover whole neighbourhoods, so the lookup can still show such a building its zone's day; that day does not mean the City collects there.
The City divides Fredericton into five garbage collection zones, one for each weekday from Monday to Friday, on its Garbage Pick Up map, and the lookup reads the zone for your address. Garbage is collected every week on the zone's day. Circular Materials' curbside recycling, collected by FERO, comes on the same day and alternates weekly between Blue and Grey recyclables; the City's recycling calendar shows which week is which.
Some addresses are on no zone of the map, such as industrial and open-space land and some residential and future-development lots between or beyond the zones, and the lookup gives them no day rather than a guess. An address within about 10 m of the line between two zones with different days also gets no day, because the map cannot say which side of the line the home is on. In the areas added to the City in 2023, the map still carries their old monthly recycling schedule, so the lookup gives no recycling day there; since September 1, 2026, recycling in the Carlisle Road, Pepper Creek and Killarney Road areas has been every other week. Garbage is collected on holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day, when the City reschedules collection and announces the new day.
We last checked Fredericton on October 12, 2026: 11 of 24 addresses returned an exact collection day, Monday to Friday. The other 13 are on no zone of the City's garbage map: 6 on industrial or open-space land, 1 a large building on residential land, and 6 residential or future-development lots between or beyond the zones. That is what our check saw, not a full list of Fredericton's pickup days.
