Receptacles must be durable and watertight with tight-fitting covers and handles, holding no more than 32 gallons unless they're city-owned carts assigned to the address.
The city will only collect up to 96 gallons of trash per address, which is the legal limit here.
Trash left out in bags is not an acceptable way to contain it; it has to go in a can with the attached lid so it will not blow away and animals cannot climb in.
Recycling is different: there is no limit on how much you set out, and paper bags, cardboard boxes or an old laundry basket marked 'recycling' all work as containers.
